What is contents insurance?
Contents insurance is the insurance of any contents within your home, for example;
- Jewellery
- Paintings
- Furniture
- Clothing
- Personal posessions
Insurance lenders can usually offer contents insurance included in the buildings insurance policy however it is your responsibility to take out contents insurance to cover the cost of your personal possessions. Unlike buildings insurance, contents insurance if not a mandatory when taking out a mortgage. Usually lenders can combine both your buildings and contents insurance cover and if they are taken out together discounts can be arranged.
Without contents insurance your personal possessions are at risk. Some contents insurance policies offer a wider cover insuring more risks, whilst others offer less and with lower premiums. Contents insurance can also be taken out on items such as your car, student property or for when you are travelling.
